Principal’s Message

I would like to thank parents, students and staff for supporting us on our recent Kindy and Pre-primary Open Day. It was lovely to see so many familiar faces and hear you share your positive experiences of Mullaloo Heights with new families considering enrolling here. We received many glowing compliments about our school, particularly the warm and welcoming community vibe and the energy and enthusiasm of our staff. Our assertion that Mullaloo Heights is a vibrant community, with a supportive environment in which children can learn, was well and truly vindicated. In addition to the friendly greeting, our open day guests, both old and young, were given an enticing taste of what is in store for Kindy and Pre-primary children during a typical day at Mullaloo Heights. There were messy activities, decorating and designing tasks, as well as face painting and a chance to view our new chicks. Children and parents mixed together to try everything and rounded off the range of experiences with a delicious sausage sizzle served by our student volunteers. The morning was a great success and an opportunity to show the local community exactly why Mullaloo Heights is such a good school.

Meanwhile, back in classrooms, teachers are busily writing end of semester reports ready to be disseminated at the end of this term. The grades students have been allocated, particularly in literacy and numeracy, are the result of rigorous assessment and teacher moderation. Moderation takes place between groups of teachers from each learning phase and involves them comparing each individual student’s work to an agreed national standard. This is a lengthy process, but one that allows teachers to agree on what standard is required for each grade, thereby ensuring consistency across the school. Should you have concerns regarding reports, please contact your child’s teacher. They will be able to explain the reasons supporting each grade allocated. Reports will be sent home on Thursday 28th June.

What Happened at Camp?

As predicted, our Year 6 students were perfect ambassadors for Mullaloo Heights, displaying our core values at every opportunity. There were some pretty daunting challenges thrown their way throughout the 3 day camp: rock climbing, abseiling, canoeing and walking on high ropes to name but a few. Courage and persistence were shown as they stepped outside their comfort zone, as well as resilience when things didn’t go as planned. Most of all, it was lovely to see the students enjoying each other’s company, ensuring everyone was included at all times and showing respect for the adults present. With such a positive mindset, it is not a surprise that they had a great time. Grab a taste of their experience by flicking through the following photo gallery.
