Principal’s Message
Our annual Faction Cross Country Competition happened a little earlier than planned due to an unfavourable weather forecast, but our students were well prepared and ready to go, despite the short notice. As is the Mullaloo Heights way, the children participated in each race clearly displaying our school values, with persistence, resilience and respect for fellow competitors being most obvious. Without exception, students, from Pre-primary to year 6, rose to the challenge of completing this tough course. I have to say we have some gifted runners at Mullaloo Heights who made the made the task look easy. With this in mind, I am looking forward to see what they achieve at the Interschool Cross Country Competition. For those students who didn’t find the event easy, there was plenty of support from their peers. I enjoyed, as I am sure you did, witnessing the cheers for those students who came in last and the way in which their classmates ran alongside them for the final few metres. This empathy and support is indicative of the nature of students at Mullaloo Heights and is something we can be proud of as a school community. I would like to thank Mrs Thorby who once again organised such a great event. It was an extremely enjoyable morning. It was also lovely to see so many parents attending both the competition and the presentation of awards. Thank you – your support is very much appreciated by students and staff.
Countdown to camp has begun for our Year 6 students and, as you can imagine, they are very excited. They are off to Fairbridge Village next week and will have a memorable time cementing friendships, encountering new physical challenges and for some, sleeping away from their family for the first time. I am sure they will make the most of this wonderful opportunity. They certainly deserve some fun after all their hard work over the past term and a half. Of course, while they’re away, our Year 5 students will be stepping into their shoes and testing what it’s like to be a school leader. We will let you know how they all get on in the next newsletter.

Room 6 Assembly
We all enjoyed Room 6’s lively retelling of ‘the Recess Queen’, on Thursday. Amazing acting skills brought the characters of mean Jean and brave Katie Sue alive, effectively teaching us how to stand up for ourselves, as well as the importance of being kind to others. Well done Room 6, on a great assembly.

Aussie of the Month
Aussie of the Month for May is Billie.
Billie always comes to school with a friendly smile and a cheerful attitude. She consistently displays kindness and patience towards others and will never hesitate to offer her assistance when needed. She treats everyone with respect and does a great job of being inclusive of those around her, both in the classroom and on the playground
Congratulations, Billie.

Athletics Clinic
This term, the students from MHPS have been fortunate to participate in Little Athletics Clinics run by Coach Claudia.
The students learnt how to apply correct techniques in various athletic activities such as running, relays, turbo javelin, discus, long jump and triple jump. The students enjoyed learning new skills from Claudia, especially her "hoop" technique for teaching triple jump!
Last term we were fortunate to have Coach Amanda from Modcrosse WA come out to our school and run some Modcrosse clinics with the Friday classes. The students learnt how to use a Modcrosse stick correctly, to pass and catch the ball, as well as drills to help develop these skills. Students also learnt how to play the game of Modcrosse, which has helped us to field our first ever Modcrosse team in the upcoming Lightning carnival!
