Principal’s Message
Caroline Booth
I am sure you’ll agree the lead up to the Christmas break is always busy. We’re certainly feeling that way at Mullaloo Heights as we approach the end of the school year. Our students are currently completing assessments and proudly demonstrating how much progress they have made this year. The work produced will be analysed by teachers and used to compile end of year reports. I am sure you are all looking forwarding to receiving your child’s report to see what they have achieved. Remember, if you are confused by anything on your child’s report, you can talk to your class teacher. They will be happy to clarify any misunderstandings and explain why grades have been awarded. Having said that, it has been another great year with real commitment from our students. This has certainly been reflected in our reading and Mathletics homework programs. Students have, once again, embraced the incentive schemes with many receiving their 100 club badge for reading and a gold badge for Matheltics. Numerous students have told me of the targets they have set themselves with regard to these programs. For some it is the achievement of double gold in Mathletics by the end of the year, while others are aiming to gain 200 books or points for reading. Regardless of the target set or number of books read, what is truly pleasing is the motivation and commitment to learning shown by our students. This enthusiasm for learning is a consistent attribute of our students and the true reward for our teachers’ hard work.
In a previous newsletter, I talked about the independent school review Mullaloo Heights underwent earlier this term. At the end of the 2 days, we were given a short summary of the findings and were told that a comprehensive, written report would be available before the end of the year. We have now received the report and are happy to share it with you. Please click on this PDF link to read it in full.
As a school, we found the review process to be both beneficial and positive. It certainly validated many of the initiatives and programs we have already implemented and gave us a clear direction for future school improvement. On reading the report, I am sure you’ll agree there is much to celebrate at Mullaloo Heights. The success of the review is the result of a number of factors, not least of which is the commitment and work of our staff, parents and students. Thank you!

Final Fundraising Festival
Students had a great time sampling the activities organised by our Year 6 students from Room 11 and 12 at our final fundraising festival, last Friday. There was lots to do - face painting, manicures, shoot-outs and Bey Blades, just to list a few. Great fun was had by all and over $700 was raised. This will be used to buy a parting gift for the school from our graduating students. Watch this space to find out what it is, but in the meantime, enjoy the photos.

Parliament House Visit
Our student councillors visited Parliament House last Thursday. Emily Hamilton, our local MLA, invited the student leaders for a tour and lunch, before taking them to watch Question Time in the Legislative Assembly. Miss Southworth and Ms Booth count themselves as extremely privileged to have accompanied these students on this unique experience. The opportunity for a personal guided tour of Parliament House is one reason for this, but not the main one. The true pleasure came from watching the students’ enjoyment of this experience. It was wonderful to witness their maturity when chatting about their ambitions and interests with Emily over lunch. It was also amusing to observe their shock at the ‘lively’ way in which the MLAs conducted their debate during Question Time. Each and every student truly appreciated this opportunity and this was clear from the way in which they interacted with all adults and experiences during the day. They were perfect ambassadors for Mullaloo Heights.

Salvation Army Fundraiser
Our Salvation Army fundraiser was really well supported by Mullaloo Heights families. By the end of last Friday, each class basket was bulging with food. Our contributions will be used to compile food hampers for families who are less fortunate than us and will definitely be appreciated. Thank you for helping us to improve Christmas for many people.
