Principal’s Message
Caroline Booth
The library was definitely the place to be last week. It was taken over by students, numerous parent helpers and a group of unsavoury looking pirates. This was all in support of our annual school Book Fair, which was a great success. It was wonderful to see the library filled with students excitedly browsing books and carefully selecting their favourites. Reading is truly one of life’s great pleasures and events such as this help promote this fact. As always, the P&C did an amazing job in generating enthusiasm for this event. Unfortunately, they were victims of their own success as the response to the Build a Pirate Ship competition was overwhelming, making judging an incredibly challenging task. However, we did eventually manage to select a few winners, with each lucky student achieving a book voucher to spend at the fair. Their hard work ensured a large percentage of profit was redirected to school and will help buy literacy pro books and additional resources for school. Thank you to all parents who supported the book fair, either by volunteering or buying books.
Pirate Ship Winners
We hope you have had an opportunity to look at our school Facebook Page recently. Browsing through the photos and videos will give you a real taste of what’s happening in our classrooms. I’m sure you’ll agree the quality of teaching and learning at Mullaloo Heights is high and the experiences provided for our students are both varied and interesting. If you haven’t already, make sure you take a look.
Enjoy the long weekend and see you all on Tuesday.

An Early Childhood makeover
Our Early Childhood playground has had a makeover. An interesting new play feature, complete with logs, stepping stones and a bridge, has been installed. Our Early Childhood teachers spend much time planning activities for our students that stimulate the imagination and encourage creativity. On Monday, we snapped a group of children building a spaceship, combining traditional play equipment with junk materials.

Without a doubt, this new addition to the play area will enhance the creative learning already taking place at Mullaloo Heights. Pop down to the Early Childhood block to have a look, but in the meantime, view the photos showing the gradual improvement.

Room 10’s Assembly
We were treated to a lively and entertaining grammar lesson by Room 10 yesterday. They used their assembly to inform us that many adults don’t know what adjectives, nouns and verbs are. To solve this problem, they formed a rock band and devised a number of catchy tunes to help those of us who are ‘grammatically challenged’ remember these important terms. They also taught us how to write a sentence. We don’t remember grammar lessons being quite so much fun when we were at school. No wonder our students are so good at writing.

Aussie of the Month
Our Aussie of the Month is Oliver Bilich because he is a quiet, conscientious student who takes pride in our school. He doesn’t need to be asked to do a job; he just does it. He is kind, caring and cooperative and epitomises the values of Mullaloo Heights. Well done, Oliver. You are a deserving Aussie.

Out and About at Mullaloo Heights!
Our roving camera caught the Pre-Primary students hunting for bugs last week. It all began with a visit from the local bug lady. The selection of interesting creepy crawlies she brought with her inspired our youngsters to locate a few more in their natural habitat. Equipped with magnifying glasses, insect keys and a friend, they took a careful walk around school and managed to identify quite a few species. Have a look at our intrepid scientists in action.
