Principal's Message
Welcome to the first edition of our new digital newsletter. We are very excited by the new format and are sure you'll enjoy the ease with which you can now access information, as well as browsing the galleries of photographs.
We're certainly not short of photographs in this newsletter; our school has been a busy place of late. A large group of our students took part in the One Big Voice performance at the Arena, a couple of weeks ago. Parents who attended will agree that this was an incredible event. Over 4,000 students, from schools all around Perth, gathered to create this giant choir. Just the thought of organising so many students to sing together and in time gives me a headache. However, with just one practise together as a group in the hours preceding the performance, the children nailed it. Their singing was beautiful and their harmonies spectacular. It was a definitely a 'shivers down your spine' experience. Our students were amazing on many levels - behaviour, performance and keeping those white shirts clean! In addition, Philippa (year 4) made us proud when she joined an elite few for her solo, as did Konrad (year 5) as a compere. The whole evening was a wonderful experience, one I'm sure the students won't forget. Thank you Mrs Ameduri for organising the event and giving up so much of your own time to ensure our choir performed at their best. Without you, this event would not have happened. Also, thanks to Miss Smith, our school chaplain, for joining us the Arena.
Our athletics carnival was another roaring success! Perhaps inspired by the Olympics, our students gave their all when participating in each event. Their enthusiasm and sportsmanship was infectious making the day a lovely experience for all. Thank you to Mrs Thorby who applied her considerable organisational skills to ensure the day ran smoothly and also to all parents and staff members who helped set things up for the day and were there at the end to clear everything up.
As I write, we are halfway through Book Week and our students have embraced the activities on offer. They have been guessing the book each day in the library, dropping everything and reading on signal and devising great questions for our guest readers. We are all anticipating the Book Week assembly which will be in full flow when you receive this newsletter. I can tell you that our students have been working hard for the writing competition and our staff have been learning their lines for our annual play. More will follow in the next newsletter.

One Big Voice Concert
What a wonderful event ONE BIG VOICE was on the 12th August!
After many months of hard work, our students did us proud with their excellent performance and behaviour. Thank you to all parents for supporting your child and this event.
I'd also like to thank those of you who have already returned the choir shirts clean and smelling good. If you have still got one at home, please return it as soon as you can.

Mad Hatter Buddies
Room 12 eagerly helped their buddy class, Room 6 to create their crazy hats in preparation for the Mad Hatter's Tea Party. Both classes had a fantastic time to plan and create their masterpieces. The Year 5/6's were just as excited when the time came for them to design their own headgear. We are all very much looking forward to wearing our grand designs on the day!

Book Week Gets Off to a Great Start!
So far, so much fun! Book Week started with 'Guess the Book' on Monday morning. The library was filled with parents and students attempting to solve the cryptic clues. From there, we moved onto the whole school literacy rotation. Working in multi-age groups, older students helped the youngsters to complete a whole range of tasks based on books and reading. Great fun was had by all – teachers included. In the afternoon a few guest readers turned up to share a story or two. Rick the Rock, Dean Fiore (star V8 driver) and players from the Western Force were just a few secret book lovers, showing our students that whatever you chose to do in life, reading is important. Our Kindy - Y4 students also enjoyed a musical extravaganza, Fair Dinkum, on Tuesday morning, inspiring them to pick up copies of the latest shortlisted books from the Children's Book Council Awards. There's more to come in our next newsletter, but for the moment have a look at what we've got up to so far.
