Welcome to Term 4! I hope everyone had a wonderful break. There was certainly excitement in the air on Tuesday morning as the students returned to their classes. Our Year 6 students are embarking on their final term of primary school and are looking forward to all the events and celebrations that await them.

I would like to congratulate our Learner Disposition award recipients for this week. These students were identified by their teachers for demonstrating the qualities of our Learner Disposition, Innovate. Over the next fortnight, classes will focus on the Learner Disposition of Courage.

This term, we are excited to announce the creation of an Indigenous Cultural Mural for our Chicken Coop. Narelle Henry has been working with students across the school to learn more about our local flora and fauna from an Indigenous perspective. The classes are currently researching aspects of flora or fauna found on our school grounds, and these elements will be included in a mural created in collaboration with the students by Kerise Decloure. This project is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the land on which we learn and to give our resident chickens and environmental garden an incredible mural that tells the story of Mullaloo. Kerise will be working with the students over the next few weeks. We will also be hosting a community art session in November, with more information to follow.

Next week, work will begin on installing a Universal Access Toilet and Shower outside Tern Block. The Buddy Bench will be moved to a new location to accommodate this work.

Planning is underway for the 2025 school year. If your situation changes and your child/ren are no longer planning to attend Mullaloo Heights, please inform the front office at your earliest convenience. Alternatively, if you know families that have recently moved to the neighbourhood and haven’t enrolled yet, please encourage them to do so.

Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) is an important element in our school community, supporting working families and providing quality care to our students. I thank the families who took the time to fill in the recent surveys regarding OSHC at Mullaloo Heights. Due to the feedback from these surveys and some ongoing contractual concerns, I will be putting out an Expression of Interest for the OSHC contract at Mullaloo Heights for 2025. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Big Childcare staff, particularly the carers at the school, for their dedication and care. Big Childcare is committed to positively completing their contract until January and supporting the new provider’s transition to the school. The school board will support the school through the EOI process, and I will keep everyone updated with the outcome.

I would like to wish all our interschool athletes and Mrs. Thorby good luck for the upcoming Interschool Carnivals. I know the students will show Courage as they try their best and support each other on these exciting days.

The Sustainability Committee is extremely pleased to announce that after a lot of time and effort we have received our 'WasteSorted' accreditation. This means we have made a great start on our sustainability journey at Mullaloo Heights and we look forward to sharing our knowledge and educating everyone in more sustainable practices. Our future plans include composting systems for our food scraps and various recycling. We are also very excited to announce the formation of our student Green Team. A huge congratulations to Grace G., Hannah S., Addison H., Poppy K., Arabella C., Tom N., Cooper F. and Delilah B.

Each fortnight the school focuses on one Learner Disposition. The students are explicitly taught what the Disposition means, how it is helpful to become a positive learner and they award one student from their class a Learner Disposition award at our Line Up. This week we congratulated these students for showing the Learner Disposition of Innovate. The spotlight for the next fortnight is on Courageous.
