And just like that we are halfway through the school year of 2024. It has been wonderful to read the students’ school reports and I urge all families to take the time to read them with their children and reflect on their achievements and set some goals for semester 2. Remember to download and save the reports from the email as the link only stays open for four weeks. The reports are also saved on Connect which you will be able to access whilst your child is at this school.
I would like to thank our semester 1 student councillors Coco W, Grace H, Braden H and Jack N who have fully embraced their leadership roles and have been willing to assist at a moment’s notice.
Kindy and Pre-Primary Enrolments: Enrolments for Kindergarten and Pre-Primary for the year 2025 are now open until 19th July.
Learner Dispositions: Have you seen our Mullaloo Magpie Learner Disposition signs around the school? Through our Visible Learning journey, the staff have collaboratively developed the dispositions we STRIVE for our students to show when learning. The students brainstormed and voted on the mascot, and we thank Narelle Henry for providing us with the Indigenous perspective of local animals. The Magpie was selected, and we worked closely with Studio Abbiahn to bring our ideas to life and create our learner disposition mascot.
Premier’s Reading Challenge: The Premier’s Reading Challenge is continuing, and registrations are still open. We encourage all families to participate by following this link to register: Premier's Reading Challenge - Premier's Reading Challenge (premiersreadingchallenge.wa.edu.au). The challenge is to read and log 12 or more books during the challenge period, which runs until September 6th. Mrs. Bowe has provided each child with a bookmark, and fantastic prizes await those who complete
the challenge. Congratulations to the students who have already read and logged 12 books.
Term 3: Is a fun-filled, actioned packed term with Lego Masters, Musica Viva, the faction and interschool carnivals, One Big Voice, Open Night, Book Week, Year 6 camp and a trip to Parliament House. Follow the link for the Term 3 planner to ensure you don’t miss any of these exciting events. A reminder that students first day back for Term 3 is Tuesday 16th July.
I wish everyone a safe and restful holiday.
A link to your child’s semester report was emailed out on Tuesday (25th June) this week. Please remember to download it and save it in your computer files (or print it out) as the link is only active for 4 weeks. This might be particularly important for parents of Year 6 students who have started looking at scholarships and high school enrolments for 2025.

Room 9’s classroom theme and assembly this term has been based around the Australian environment. In geography lessons, we have been exploring the differing vegetation, unique animals and wonderful habitats of this beautiful land. We have been fortunate enough to take part in the ‘Adopt a Coastline’ program which focuses on education, rehabilitation and protection activities in our coastal dune areas. This involved a total of 5 incursions/excursions and was a great experience! In class, we have been researching and writing information reports on habitats and animals and we finished our topic by creating dioramas.
We hope that you enjoyed our assembly and news of all our hard work.

‘Right on Track’ at Mullaloo Heights!
Ever wondered what it takes to be a part of the V8 Supercars championship?
We were lucky enough to secure a limited number of places for our Year 6 students to participate in a ‘Students On Track’ Program and spend a day trackside at the Repco Australia Supercars Championship event held at Barbagallo Raceway in Wanneroo recently. A lucky draw was held and the five excited students got to learn all about the on and off track operations.
It was an incredible opportunity and they saw practical applications of maths, physical education, science, marketing, first-aid, event management and engineering all combined in action at a large-scale motorsport event.
Students received some VIP treatment that included free passes, seeing the purpose-built team transporters, doing some laps on a simulator, watching the team mechanics at work, personal pit tours where they got up close with the race cars, viewed teams’ data hubs, attended an autograph signing session, had question time and they got to enjoy the excitement of the Supercars practice sessions, support category sessions and other entertainment on track.
We would like to thank Dean Fiore from Brad Jones Racing, Dick Johnson Racing and Supercars Australia for their amazing support and generosity in making this experience happen.
A few quotes from the students:
‘I loved watching the cars zip around the track, they were so fast and loud. We went into the pits and got to go into the garages. I learnt so much about the cars, they are very expensive to build. I liked seeing all the cool stuff on the cars, especially the carbon fibre. When we shut the car door, it was so light. It was the best day ever! (Patrick)
“I loved the day and going into the pits. I had no idea how fast and loud the cars were!” (Evelyn)
“I loved watching the Supercars race around the track, I also enjoyed seeing the cars up really close in the pits, and looking at all the carbon fibre parts on them.” (Luke)
“I liked watching all the activities that went on around the track, and the motorbikes were doing flips on a big ramp. I also enjoyed meeting all the different drivers, and they signed my hat.” It was so interesting. (Erin)
“I liked going into the pits and we got to see inside the cars up close. It was really interesting”. It was a great day. (Cooper)
Please enjoy some photos of this experience.
On Wednesday 12th June, Bunnings visited our school to help set up a Composting Station. Bunnings generously donated 3 compost tubs, gloves, some seedling and their time. Thank you, Belinda and Debbie for teaching Miss Embling's and Mrs Nixon's Year 3's about composting and gardening. The children had a wonderful time and the garden looks neat.
Interschool Lightning Carnival
This week we celebrated NAIDOC Week – Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud. This year’s theme honours the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture – with fire a symbol of connection to Country, to each other and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The students were treated to an interactive performance by Dion Drummond.
Classes worked with their buddies to collaborate on learning activities, the ECE classes with the help of many parents had rotational activities.
The highlight of the week was the Line Up and following workshops that Narelle Henry coordinated where she enlightened the students about her journey growing up as an Indigenous girl in the Northern Suburbs of Perth. Narelle shared the medicinal properties of the trees and plants on our school grounds, discussed the native animals found in Mullaloo and spoke about the culture of Aboriginal families and the importance of ‘we’ rather than ‘I’ and how to leave our world in a better place than we found it. Here are some of the reflections from the students from Narelle’s sessions:
