Welcome to Term 2!
I trust everyone had a relaxing holiday and are now ready for a long and busy term. This term spans eleven weeks, which is longer than usual. We have an exciting lineup of events planned, so please make sure to check the term planner regularly, as occasionally dates may change.
As mentioned in the SZapp notifications this week, the Department of Education is currently negotiating with the State School Teachers’ Union (SSTUWA) and the Principals’ Federation of Western Australia to reach an industrial agreement. While these negotiations are ongoing, the SSTUWA has proposed industrial action for half a day on the morning of Tuesday, April 23rd. At Mullaloo Heights Primary, the strike action will occur during the first few hours of the morning, and teachers will be back in classrooms, ready to teach by 12:30pm. The school will remain open during this time, but regular teaching and learning won’t resume until 12:30 pm. We will arrange for supervision and modified activities, and it’s likely that normal classroom structures will need to be adjusted to accommodate this.
If you choose to keep your child/ren at home during this strike action, please submit an attendance form using SZapp with the reason “due to strike action.”
A reminder to parents: The WA Student Assistance Payment is now open. To apply, download the ServiceWA app to your mobile device and have your child’s 8-digit WA student number (WASN) handy. You can find the WASN on your child’s school reports or NAPLAN reports. Further information is available on the ServiceWA app and the WA Student Assistance Payment websites.
Additionally, our school will participate in the Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) between May and July this year. The AEDC is a national census conducted every three years by the Australian Government in partnership with state and territory governments. It measures how children have developed by the time they start their first year of full-time school. Pre-primary parents will receive more information distributed via Connect.
I extend my gratitude to all the families who participated in the School Board Representative voting process. It brings me great pleasure to announce that Connor Allbury and Paul Fildes have been successfully nominated as our School Board Representatives. Their dedication and commitment will undoubtedly contribute to the betterment of our school community.
Now, let’s turn our attention to an important upcoming event: our ANZAC Ceremony. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, April 24th, when we will gather to honour the bravery and sacrifice of our ANZAC heroes. Mr. Adlam, our student leaders, Mrs. Watson, and the choir have been diligently preparing for this solemn occasion. I wholeheartedly encourage all families to attend and be part of this meaningful ceremony.
Enrolments for Kindergarten Places in 2025 are now open! If your child is turning 4 years old by 30 June 2025, please take this opportunity to secure their spots. Our school tours, held weekly, provide new families with insights into our vibrant learning environment.
Additionally, I’m thrilled to announce that this year, we will be supporting 65 Roses Day on Friday, May 24, 2024. This day serves as the National Day of Awareness for Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic Fibrosis WA, a registered not-for-profit organization, plays a crucial role in providing essential support services for both children and adults living with cystic fibrosis. Funds raised during this event contribute to vital research initiatives.
We will be supporting this by:
- Roses Sale: We’ll be selling roses in the morning, so be sure to grab one and show your support.
- Awareness Activities: Throughout the week, our students will engage in activities to raise awareness about this condition.
- Samantha’s Story: In room 6, we have Samantha, who bravely faces cystic fibrosis. Her family will be actively coordinating our fundraising efforts.
Stay tuned for more details as we approach the event. Let’s come together as a compassionate and supportive community to make a difference!
Thank you for your continued involvement and commitment to Mullaloo Heights Primary School.

2024 ANZAC Service - Wednesday 24th April
The Mullaloo Heights Primary School ANZAC Service will be held on Wednesday April 24 beginning at 9:00am in the Undercover Area. We have a special guest attending who will speak to the students during the service.
If students are, or have been involved in Scouts, Cadets, Girl Guides, or a similar organisation, they are invited to wear their uniform for the service or the entire day if they choose. During the service, there is an opportunity for students to lay a flower in remembrance. If students would like to be involved in this phase of the service, they need to bring in a flower on the morning of the service.
Parents are able to attend. Just a quick reminder to those who attend that we do not clap (applause) during an ANZAC Service.
