As we approach the second half of the term, please make sure you have put all our school events into your calendar, so you don't miss out on any of our exciting events.

We have had a fantastic start to the term which started with an outstanding result at the interschool cross country and being awarded the team spirit award, this together with our new look Jumps and Throws format has set the tone for a great Athletics Carnival in week 8. Thank you to room 11 and room 8 for hosting their class assemblies this term, a lot of hard work and practise goes into putting on these performances. Swimming has also begun for half of our classes with the remainder having their lessons in week 9 and 10.

Mrs Ameduri, Mrs Zuchetti and Mrs Smith will be taking our Choir this afternoon to Perth Arena to sing in the One Big Voice. One Big Voice is Australia's largest children's choir with the purpose of having as many young people as possible singing positive, uplifting, life affirming songs. What a fantastic opportunity for our Choir. Thank you to Mrs Ameduri, Mrs Zuchetti and Mrs Smith for donating your time on a Friday evening to support our students.

Book week is nearly upon us, and this is always an incredible week at Mullaloo Heights. The children are treated to many exciting activities and events. This year we also have the P&C Book Fair during this week.

Our annual Open Nights will be held on 30^th August and will begin with a choir performance in the undercover area at 5pm, families can enjoy the performance whilst having a sausage sizzle from the P&C before the classes open at 5.30-7pm. This is an opportunity for the children to show you their class work and how far they have progressed throughout this year and to say hello to all the staff. If you wish to have a detailed conversation with the teacher please arrange an appointment at a mutually convenient time. Remember to visit the specialist classes and Big Childcare will also have their room open for families to view.

As a part of the whole school Visible Learning Journey, we are introducing the students to Learner Dispositions. Learner Dispositions is the way someone feels and acts about their learning. Each week the whole school is focusing on one Learner Disposition. Our whole school Learner Dispositions are:

Parents of Year 3 and 5 students would have received their child's individual NAPLAN reports, the staff are currently analysing the whole school, class and individual reports to ensure our planning and targeted intervention addresses the needs identified in the data. I would like to congratulate all year 3 and 5 students for doing their best in NAPLAN we are very proud of you.

It is hard to believe that we are beginning to plan for the 2024 school year. To assist with this process if your child/ren are not returning to MHPS in 2024 please inform the school via email or SZapp.

About Us:

Mullaloo Heights Primary School provides a canteen service to over 200 students, helping to create a healthy and nourishing environment for our young learners.

Responsibilities:

As the Canteen Manager, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operations of our school canteen. Your responsibilities will include:

Planning and overseeing day-to-day canteen activities
Maintaining food safety and hygiene standards
Managing stock, including ordering and organising supplies
Ensuring accurate financial record-keeping
Training and supporting volunteers
Prioritising the health and safety of our school community

Training and Support:

Don't worry if you're new to the role – we provide comprehensive training and support during a handover period with the current Canteen Manager.

Qualifications and Skills:

To excel in this role, you should demonstrate:

Ability to prepare and promote nutritious foods for children
Strong teamwork and leadership skills
Effective time management
Experience with parent groups and volunteers (preferred, but not essential)
Basic financial management knowledge
Adherence to safety and hygiene regulations
Working With Children Certificate
WA Police Clearance
Completion of WA school Canteen "Traffic Light" Training (can be done online for free before starting)

In our Health lessons late in Term 2, we had a large focus on when and how to be resilient. Room 11’s assembly showcased students’ self-made skits demonstrating examples of resilient and non-resilient behaviours in situations that primary school children might experience on a day-to-day basis. They also gave a rousing rendition of Taron Egerton’s cover of Elton John’s I’m Still Standing from the movie Sing!

Room 8 entertained us with an animated rendition of their Talk 4 Writing Narrative Text “The Enormous Crocodile” and warning song “Never Smile at a Crocodile. The children loved performing for their parents and the school. Everyone enjoyed the “Crocodile Rock” dance.

On Wednesday 9^th August we held our Faction Jumps and Throws Carnival for Year 3-6 students! In previous years we have measured these results during class time but this year we made it a day event so students could compete in all events on the same day.

Students participated in long jump, throws and a 400m run. Fantastic results were achieved with competitors earning points for their factions.

Enrolments are now open for VacSwim swimming lessons during the October and summer school holidays.

VacSwim offers fun lessons at beach or pool locations across WA. It’s a great school holiday activity that teaches valuable safety skills to help keep your child safe in the water.

Your children can start as young as five years old.

Term 3 is here and is tracking along nicely.

This term we have been focusing on the values of 'Inclusion' and 'Being a good Citizen' within the classroom and also outside.

The 'Peacemakers Peer mediators' team have continued going out at recess and lunch and doing an amazing job and we are looking at training up more students who will have the chance to do the same in term 4.

Just dance club is still moving and grooving on Tuesdays at lunch time and the year 6 girls are learning resilient, self care, and self value skills in prep for high school in the Shine program.

I am looking forward to the rest of what term 3 is going to bring and continue the chaplain service at Mullaloo Heights PS.
