Kaya families
I hope this newsletter finds you happy, healthy and safe. We certainly have been battered by the weather in recent weeks, the students and staff have coped well with so many inside recess and lunch times. Thank you to all families who are keeping their children home when they are unwell and advising the office via the SZapp of reasons for absences. I would like to personally thank the P&C who generously provided morning tea to the Administration Team last week for Principal’s Day it was a very thoughtful and kind gesture that was greatly appreciated.
OPEN NIGHT 2022
This year we have changed the format of the Open Night, we will start the evening with a performance from our school choir. The performance will be at 5pm in the UCA and we invite all families to come and support the choir. You will be able to purchase a sausage sizzle and drink from the P&C stall throughout the evening. Classes will be open from 5.15pm – 7pm this will include the Science, Music, Art and Indonesian classes. I urge all families to come along and marvel over the learning your children have participated in so far this year. Teachers will be in the classroom to support your children as they show you their work. Parents, if you would like to talk the teacher in depth regarding your child’s learning, please arrange a suitable time for a one on one meeting.
BOOK WEEK 2022
Week 7 this term will be our Book Week, with the theme being "Dreaming with eyes open.” Book Week is a highlight on the calendar and the week is filled with daily Literacy based activities to engage the students and encourage the love of books and reading. The dress up parade will be held on Thursday 1st September, between recess and lunch, rehearsals are well underway for the staff performance and I am in awe of the talent of the staff. Special thanks to Miss Doleman and Miss Shaw for their script writing, directing and choreography. Our families and community are invited to come and watch the parade and staff performance.
2023 PLANNING
It’s hard to believe that we are beginning the planning for 2023 already. I’m thrilled to announce that we will be having two groups of Kindergarten classes next year. They will both operate out of ECU1 on alternate days. Pre-Primary enrolments have increased significantly as well. To ensure we can accurately plan for staffing and class structures, I ask that if you are not intending to attend Mullaloo Heights in 2023 please email the school as soon as possible.
2023 - 2028 OUT OF SCHOOL HOURS CARE - TENURE
Inline with the Department of Education guidelines of putting out to tenure the Out of School Hours Care(OSHC) after 5 years of continuous service. The School Board, together with the Administration Team will now begin the process of seeking expressions of interest from licenced providers to deliver an OSHC service from the school site, for the period of 2023 – 2028. Thank you to the families who utilise the Giggling Geckos service for completing the survey. We will inform the community of the outcome through the newsletter.

We would like to formally acknowledge the hard work that our Semester Two Student Councillors have already put into their role. Cleo, Marlee, Josh and Xavier were voted into their position during Term 1 elections. Our Head Boy and Head Girl, Sawyer and Ruby continue in their role for Semester Two. I would also like to thank Annabelle, Maddilyn, Jet and Brodie who did a great job as Semester 1 Councillors. We are very fortunate at Mullaloo to have such a dedicated team of student leaders.
Keep up the great work.

Deputy Principal
Early Childhood Unit - New outdoor toys
We have new outdoor toys! Our Early Childhood children are very excited about the latest equipment. Thank you to the P&C who purchased the new equipment for the centre. The purchases included: sand toys, outdoor trucks, a water trolley, a water wall, wooden scales and a small world tray on a stand.
We are looking forward to the warmer weather when all the water equipment can be used to its full potential. For now, the students are enjoying the trucks and sand toys.

Bunnings Workshop and Cubby House Donation
On Thursday 28th July, our Early Childhood students had a visit from Belinda and Loraraine from Bunnings Joondalup for a potting workshop. Each student received a terracotta pot, which they had fun decorating and plant a strawberry plant in to take home. All kindly donated by Bunnings Joondalup.
Not only did they came out to do a workshop with our students, but also donated a little wooden cubby house painted to look like a little Bunnings along with some accessories.

There is always a buzz around Mullaloo Heights when it is Science Week! Our students (aka. little professors) have been enthusiastically entering the lab this week, keen to slip on a lab coat, take hold of a magnifying glass and observe a collection of shark jaws and artefacts including some framed prehistoric shark teeth, that are dated back many millions of years. We have Mr. Nancarrow to thank for the loan of these prize possessions.
Students of all ages have been busy completing their science quizzes as homework this week.
The prize in each of the age categories was a little book of science experiments to add to their classroom library. Congratulations to the classes who submitted the highest percentage of quizzes.
Senior Quiz Yr 5/6 winners - Room 12
Middle Years Yr 2-4 winners - Room 9
Junior Quiz PP - Yr1 winners - Room 8
The overall winners get to witness an explosive experiment involving Coke and Mentos after our incursion. That was the only class who brought back 100% of the quizzes… the very keen professors in Mrs Davidson's class. Well done Room 8!
As the Grand Finale to the MHPS Science Week, the students at Mullalloo Heights have a local Marine Biologist and Shark Conservationist coming to share her knowledge and give an engaging presentation.
Parents are welcome to have a look at the displays in the Science lab on our open night coming up on Wednesday, 24th August.

The Mullaloo Heights School Board plays an important role in the governance of our school, setting our strategic direction, ensuring that the views of the community are heard and establishing the conditions for every child to be successful. Mullaloo Heights is a community school, and the School Board is an important vehicle for ensuring that every voice is heard.
The School Board works to shape school policy and direction and meets termly, with our next meeting being on Wednesday 17th August.
Please meet one of our Parent Representatives, Rhiannon Fox.
My husband and I moved to Mullaloo in 2009 and instantly fell in love with the neighbourhood and community feel. Our daughter has been attending Mullaloo Heights since 2020 and our son will start kindy in 2023.
I initially started my career in Tourism while completing a Tourism Management degree, spent some time on a working holiday in Canada and America, before coming back to work in WA Government. For the past 10 years I have worked for the regional division of the Public Transport Authority in leadership roles which include coordinating and supervising a team across metropolitan and regional areas, policy and procedure development, review and consultation, and a lot of recruitment. I believe my background in WA Government, coupled with my genuine desire to give back to the school and wider community will allow me to make a positive contribution to the MHPS School Board.
We are in need of relief cleaners at our school.
If you are interested, please contact the school for further details.
Friday 6th August, was Primary Principal’s Day and on behalf of our school we showed Mrs Jones, Mr Adlam and the admin team how much we appreciate them and all their efforts to continuously improve our school. We treated them to coffee, cake and flowers. We also wouldn’t be able to do what we do on the P&C without your help and input, so thank you!
Thank you to everyone for getting on board with QKR and online lunch ordering. It seems to be a great success and going forward we will try to use this for our fundraising events too.
