Kaya families,
Welcome back to school and I trust you had a restful break, connecting with family and friends and enjoying the wonderful winter weather we were fortunate to have. Term 3 is always a very busy term with events, carnivals, Open Night and of course Book Week. The last newsletter included the term planner, I urge all families to keep this handy to ensure you don't miss these events. I am especially looking forward to hosting our class assemblies this term.
This term we welcome Kelly Waterman to the Mullaloo Heights PS staff, Kelly is replacing Jodie Turner in ECU as Education Assistant. Kelly spent time in ECU2 getting to know the program and students at the end of last term to ensure a smooth transition. We wish Jodie well in her future endeavours.
This week we had our inaugural Lego Masters competition, the quality of the Lego Creations were incredible. Congratulations to the category winners and thank you to Mrs Nancarrow for organising. I am sure this is going to be a regular event at Mullaloo Heights for many years to come. Enjoy reading about it in more detail and seeing all the photos in this newsletter and on FaceBook.
Today our Pre-Primary and Year One students celebrate 100 days of school with several activities centred around the number 100. Photos will be on the Facebook page shortly.
We are well into winter now and coughs, cold and the flu season is upon us ask all families to keep children at home if they are unwell and inform the school of any absences via the SZapp. Attendance at school is vitally important to ensure every child is able to reach their full potential, academically, socially and emotionally. Every child needs to attend school every day that they are well.
Yesterday a letters was sent via SZapp to all families regarding the recommended COVID safe measures for schools, please ensure you have read this letter.
Over the holidays our school was a hub of activities with contractors painting, fixing our roof, replacing ceilings, putting in new drainage and soak wells, extending the footpath and repairing trip hazards. These are welcomed improvements which will reduce the flooding the school often experiences during the winter.
Parents are reminded that the staff carpark is not to be used for student drop off in the morning before school commences or pick up of students at the end of the school day. Parents are to utilise the kiss and drive system and the parks around the perimeter of the school and oval.
Giggling Geckos have provided before school, after school and vacation care at Mullaloo Heights Primary School for many years and their contract is up for renewal at the beginning of next year. Department of Education schools are required to put out to local providers when a service has been provided by one particular provider for 5 consecutive years or more. The School Board will be supporting the school through this process which will begin this term. To ensure we provide the best service to our school community we will be sending out a survey to the families currently using Giggling Geckos.
Take care, stay safe.

Hopefully you all had a lovely break and have had a chance to create a profile in the QKR app for online lunch ordering!
Next week we will start fundraising with the Billy G Cookie Dough fundraiser. It is completely online and all the info you need can be found in the attached letter. There will also be updates on the P&C Facebook page. Hopefully everyone will get on board with this great fundraiser so we can see a giant fan and projector installed in the undercover area. The last day to fundraise is Monday 29th August, so get fundraising!
Our next P&C meeting is Wednesday 3rd August at 7:15pm in the staff room. Come along and join in the conversation with a cuppa. If you can’t make it in person and would still like to be involved, Zoom details will be included in the invitation on Facebook. Hope to see you there!

Mark Harrison from the Mullaloo Beach Community Group Inc. has submitted a proposal for “Interconnected Mountain Bike Trails”. The proposal involves mountain bike trail circuits through the suburbs of Mullaloo, Craigie, Beldon and Padbury, utilising the underpasses for safe access between suburbs. Tracks will be installed in dry land, contoured areas of existing parks and will consist of green trails, for younger children, and blue trails, for more confident riders. For more information, input and support please see the attached flyer.
