Kaya everyone,
We have certainly made the most of the easing of COVID restrictions at Mullaloo Heights this term. It has been fantastic to be able to provide a wide range of educational and sporting events for the students to participate in. Yesterday we held our Talent assembly where I was amazed at the quality and variety of talent we have here at Mullaloo Heights. Special thanks to Mrs Ameduri who supported the students as they rehearsed and prepared for this event, it was wonderful to be able to have parents attend the assembly and we look forward to hosting our class assemblies next semester.
This term we achieved our very best result ever at the Interschool Lightning Carnival, a huge thank you to Mrs Thorby and all the coaches who led the teams.
Our ECU2 through to Room 9 students were treated to a day at the zoo to support their Talk 4 Writing program. It was a fantastic day out for everyone and again events like this take a lot of organisation and planning, thank you to the teachers and parent helpers for making this happen. The Kindy class made the most of having the ECU to themselves and had a pyjama day. Room 11 were selected to plant trees at Periwinkle Park and we were all treated to a fantastic incursion with Sean Choolburra for NAIDOC week. Enjoy reading more information and looking at the photos from each of these events throughout the newsletter.
Parents were emailed the school report yesterday and I encourage you to talk to your child/ren about these reports and develop some goals to work towards for semester two.
The school maintenance program is well underway. In Albatross block we have had the courtyard and all doors painted and the reading room completely renovated. Across the whole school the roof is being repaired in time for winter and the staffroom and administration offices have had their carpets replaced. Over the holidays there will be a lot of contractors onsite installing soak wells, repairing the walk ways, trip hazards, extending the path around the carpark and repairing the ceiling in the administration block and staffroom.
It has been a busy term and I wish everyone a safe and relaxing school holiday. We return back to school on Monday 18th July.
Take care, stay safe.

Interschool Lightning Carnival
The Kindy students came to school last Thursday in their cozy pyjamas. They were involved in experiences related to the letter sound we had discussed in our lessons. Some activities included completing puzzles, painting pictures, preparing popcorn and making play dough. Can you guess which letter sound we had been discussing?
Last Thursday, six classes from Pre-Primary to Year 4 had a fantastic day at the Perth Zoo. We explored the African Safari, Nocturnal House, Reptile House and Australian Wetlands. The students also took part in an educational experience hosted by zoo where they learnt about animal classification. Thank you to the wonderful parent helpers that assisted us on the day. We had a fantastic time!
20 years and still going strong!
We had magnificent weather for our tree planting at Periwinkle Park last week. Some staff and students from Room 11 took the short walk to Periwinkle Park where we were joined by representatives from the City of Joondalup and volunteers from the ‘Friends of Periwinkle Park’ Community Group.
Students learned about the benefits of planting trees in the park and were shown how to correctly plant the seedlings. The City of Joondalup generously provided the seedlings, including a range of local tree species which were planted to rejuvenate some areas of the park and to stabilise banks. The students planted over 200 seedlings during the afternoon and gave them a deep soak of water to give them a good start to their new location. The whole exercise was a great success and the students loved getting their hands dirty.
2022 marks the 20th anniversary of cooperation between the Friends of Periwinkle Park and Mullaloo Heights Primary School. We thank them, and the City of Joondalup for helping with this event and we look forward to maintaining this relationship in the future.
Have a look at a few photos of our students working hard.
NAIDOC Incursion - Sean Choolburra's Visit!
We celebrated NAIDOC Week with a spectacular Indigenous performance in the Undercover Area. Our invited guest, Sean Choolburra, a much acclaimed artist, was able to make his cultural show relevant and meaningful to students by being highly interactive. Sean enlisted students to dance, clap and perform along with him on stage. Through dance, story and didgeridoo playing, he explained the story behind them with comedy sprinkled through his performance. Thank you for an entertaining, engaging and informative show, Mr Choolburra!
A few quotes from some of our students;
“It was fun to be on stage, I had so much fun”. (Calian AKA Tom Cruise– Pre–Primary)
“I enjoyed all the different dances from around the world and found the stories really interesting” (Sinead – Y3)
“It was fun, and lots of people had an opportunity to perform with him. I enjoyed seeing the different dances from Australia and around the World” (Jack – Year 6)
Enjoy a few photos from the event:
After two long years without a Talent Assembly at our school, yesterday we enjoyed a fabulous show thanks to the hard work of our performing students. These boys and girls have prepared mostly in their own time. Congratulations to all those involved, and a special thanks to parents for outfitting the children so well.
Wow the end of term 2 already!
We hope the kids enjoyed crazy sock and pizza day today and we thank you for your gold coin donation!
Next term the canteen will be switching to online ordering through the QKR app. Please see the information below, along with the new canteen menu commencing in Term 3.
At our last P&C meeting the P&C agreed to contribute to the costs of a new giant fan and projector in the undercover area so next term that’s what we’ll be fundraising for. Look out for the following fundraisers - Billy G Cookie Dough, P&C Sausage Sizzle at the school open night, Father’s Day stall, P&C stalls at the Athletics Carnival and Team Colours Pizza Day.
Our next P&C meeting is 3 August at 7:15pm. Caitlin Collins the Hillarys Labor MP will also be attending. Come along and join in the discussion with a cuppa.
Going forward we will also be using Zoom for our P&C meetings so if you can’t attend in person you can be involved remotely. Details will be included in the meeting invitations on Facebook.
Enjoy the school holidays!
