The term is well underway with the students engaged in their learning, settling into good routines and establishing effective work habits. It is wonderful to see so many children come up to the office to share their achievements with their work. I have particularly enjoyed listening to the students’ poetry, the safe science work and the beautiful art work that is being created in the Art room.
I congratulate all the school leaders that bravely nominated themselves for the roles of School Counsellor and Faction Captains. I congratulate those who were elected. I look forward to working with you all this year.
I would like to thank the parents and students for the manner in which everyone has adapted to the COVID safe learning adjustments we have put into place. I will continue to communicate all whole school announcements via the school app SZapp, if a situation occurs which effects a class or year level I will communicate this via Connect. Individual emails and phone calls will be made as needed. If your child is deemed a close contact or receives a positive test result, I urge you to contact the school immediately either via SZapp, email or phone call to the office. We are here to support you.
We are learning how to connect with each other in new ways. This week we hosted our first WebEx Assembly where by families were able to log on from home and watch Room 12’s well prepared Assembly. Congratulations to Mrs Embling and the students for the efforts that went into this production. We will be working on ways to ensure the sound quality is better for our future assemblies and also to have the ability to record them.
We had six parents nominate for the three vacant parent representative positions on the School Board. I thank each and every one of them for showing such interest in supporting our school. Thanks also to the parents who voted. We are now finalising this and will announce our new School Board members in the next newsletter. Our first School Board meeting will be on 23rd March from 5pm-7pm.
Last night was the AGM for the P&C which was held over Zoom. All executive positions were spilled and new office bearers were elected. I would like to thank the outgoing office bearers for their tireless work last year in leading the P&C to supporting our school and would like to congratulate and welcome the new office bearers to their positions.
I look forward to the year 4 to 6 Faction Swimming Carnival in week 6 which will be a fabulous community event.
Take care and stay safe.

Our head boy and girl, Sawyer and Ruby, have made an excellent start to their new role. Their first few weeks have been spent organising announcements over the PA, ensuring all students with summer birthdays have received a canteen voucher and helping their Year 6 peers organise sports equipment at lunchtime. They have now been joined by a team of student councillors. Elections took place in Week 2, with potential candidates presenting speeches to students in Year 3-6. All voters have cast their votes and the following students were selected as councillors: Annabelle A, Cleo A, Marlee H, Maddilyn S, Brodie F, Jet M, Josh R and Xavier R.
Annabelle, Maddilyn, Jet and Brodie will start their role immediately and their badges will be presented during our first assembly this week. Cleo, Marlee, Josh and Xavier will take over in Semester 2 and will receive badges later in the year.
Although only eight were appointed, all would-be councillors should be incredibly proud of themselves. Each individual prepared a well thought out and persuasive speech which they delivered calmly and confidently – a daunting task in front of such a big audience. Well done all!
Additional student leaders will be appointed over the coming weeks, including library monitories and peer mediators.
The Faction Captains for 2022 were also recently appointed. To be a positive leader takes a great deal of commitment and strength of character including some of the following character traits; kindness, integrity, initiative, empathy and delegation. Congratulations to these new school leaders who will be busy leading their faction in our upcoming swimming carnival shortly.
Our Faction Captains for 2022 are:
Tern: Rika and Bailey G
Gull: Connor M and Olivia L
Albatross: Lachlan H and Ava M
The Mullaloo Press - Hot off the Press!!
Last year, some senior students were busy getting involved in creating a newspaper for their peers. Titled, The Mullaloo Press, this publication enables the students to develop their journalistic skills.
The team, led by Chief Editor Evie B, along with Rika B, Jake D, Keira J, Phoebe M, Noah P, Cleo A and Asha B worked tirelessly during many lunchtimes to design the overall layout of the paper, topic and colour themes and this gave them the opportunity to challenge not only their literacy skills, but their creative thinking. Working collaboratively and to a tight deadline are other skills that are promoted through this project.
The Mullaloo Press is a celebration of their talent and creativity and outlines some of the events that were completed at school in Semester 2 of 2021.
We invite you to read the newspaper and share the pride that every student involved in this publication feels. Select the below link:
We look forward to the next edition. Great work team!
