It goes without saying that students have accepted some cancelled events with more joy than others; our year 3 and 5 students certainly enjoyed last week when they realised they should have been sitting NAPLAN tests; they were less happy about the lack of sporting events, though. The silver lining for teachers is that with less external activities, there is more time to concentrate on teaching and they are loving it. They are working students hard, while preparing to write end of semester reports. As with everything in the current climate, reports will look a little different. However, the professionalism and skill of our teachers will ensure you are given a good understanding of your child’s progress so far.
Not everything has a silver lining at the moment. Sad news for the school was the loss of our P&C fundraiser, Angie Taylor. Over the years, she has applied her energy and enthusiasm to the organisation of a number of popular events, such as Bogan Bingo, the Rock ‘n’ Roll V Sport Quiz and wine tasting, to name just a few. Her fundraisers were always good fun and resulted in a huge amount of money being raised. Her most recent project was the wonderful mural in our environmental garden. Thank you for your hard work and commitment, Angie. You have given your time freely for the good of our school and we will miss you. We wish you all the best in your future endeavours.
I would also like to extend my thanks to parents for carefully observing the new guidelines regarding ‘drop off and pick up’ of students at school. Avoiding the school grounds at these busy times actively supports our approach to safety and good health and we appreciate your assistance. The students, of course, have adapted with ease, as they always do, and are very adept at locating you at the end of the day. This system will continue for the time being, but we look forward to a time when we can welcome you all back on the school site.
Have a lovely weekend.

The children were ecstatic last week when they realised Wednesday treats were back on the menu. Bree, Kelly and Jade, our hardworking canteen ladies, ensured they were adhering to Health Guidelines by organising a range of tasty takeaways for our students. Thank you for your hard work. Once again, Wednesdays are the highlight of the week. We have missed you!

I can’t say enough how nice it is to have our students back at school! It’s so nice to see all their faces again and for things to return back to normal. I hope things are starting to go back to a bit of normality for you too.
This term I am focusing on supporting students one on one who need it during this time, as well as focusing on developing our peer mediators. They have been on duty at recess and lunchtimes and have loved their role in supporting younger students. They are doing such a great job already, I’m excited to see them continue to grow and develop as leaders.
Please read the article below on ‘maintaining kids’ mental health during the coronavirus pandemic.’ This article has a plan laid out by the experts at Parenting Ideas that will show you how to lay a solid foundation for good mental health, and outline key behaviours that will help build the resilience and psychological strength that kids need not just during this time, but in any season of life.
By laying a foundation for good general health and then working at maintaining the pillars of mental health and teaching kids the protective mental health behaviours, you provide them with a solid framework for maintenance of good mental health that they can take into adulthood.
