The new guidelines regarding ‘pick up’ and ‘drop off’ have been challenging for parents, particularly for those with young children. As a result, we are very grateful that you have adhered to this new system. The collection of our early childhood children has been seamless, with parents picking up children promptly and following social distancing advice. Parents of older students are asked to continue to drop children at the school boundary in the morning and wait there at the end of school day. Avoiding entering the school grounds eases the potential of encountering other adults, this being the main danger with regard to infection at schools, according to the health advice. We thank you for your ongoing consideration of this over the coming term.
Your children may have mentioned, Darika, our newest member of staff. She works tirelessly throughout the day, disinfecting anything in sight; surfaces, door knobs and toilets are gleaming. Her energy and high standards are ensuring that everyone at Mullaloo Heights has a safe and healthy environment in which to work. In addition to this ongoing daily cleaning, our children continue to follow good hygiene practices and are frequently reminded to wash their hands. Hand sanitiser is also available in each classroom. Unfortunately, we have kept the playgrounds in the main school closed, due to challenges in cleaning. Once we are in a position to address this, they will be reopened. In the meantime, our students have plenty to occupy themselves during breaks and, for the moment, are happy just to be back with their friends.
Again, thank you for your support during this rather unsettling year. Many of you have expressed gratitude for our work, particularly with regard to distance learning. I can tell you that your messages are appreciated and have made staff feel valued. We will continue to keep you updated of changes if and when they happen. Be assured that, as a school, we will be working through each development with the best outcome for our students and families in mind.

Pick Up and Drop Off Protocols
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Department of Health has asked us to impose strict social distancing measures between adults. This means there are some changes regarding parent access to the school grounds when dropping their children off at the start of the school day and collecting them at the end.
Kindy and Pre-primary students can be dropped at the gates to the Early Childhood Block where they will be met by a member of staff from 8:30am onwards and taken into class safely. At the end of the day, please wait at the gate and a member of staff will release your child to you.
Parents of children in Y1-6 are asked to drop their children at the school boundary and not to enter the school grounds. You will need to organise a spot on the school boundary to meet your child at the close of school.
We ask that parents do not wait for children on the netball courts, in Tern/ Gull courtyards or on the seating by classrooms.
Parents who are dropping children at school later in the day still need to sign their child in through the office. The same is true for parents collecting children before the end of school.
Please avoid entering this school grounds at these busy times. Thank you in anticipation of your support.
Our students returned last week more than ready to make up for lost time after the rather premature end to last term. Their enthusiasm and energy was contagious; staff haven’t stopped smiling since. Enjoy these pictures of our students enjoying being back at school once again.
We would like to extend a warm welcome to Mrs Rachael Edwards who has joined the Y3/4 teaching team for the remainder of the year. Some of you will remember Mrs Edwards as a well-loved teacher who left a few years to have children. Well she is back and sharing her innovative teaching practices with the children in Room 5 on Thursdays and Fridays. Lucky us!
