It has certainly been a positive few weeks with many successes evident at Mullaloo Heights. The first that comes to mind is the recent Swimming Carnival. Those of you who managed to attend will agree the day was an overwhelming success and the perfect antidote to the warm weather. It was wonderful to see so many of our students overcome nerves and enthusiastically take part in the many races organised. Sportsmanship was definitely the order of the day, with students congratulating one another for successes and offering support for disappointments. Not that the latter were dwelled upon for too long; most students were too busy enjoying the opportunity for a refreshing dip. They all finished the day with rather weary smiles on their faces and I suspect there were many early nights sought on Friday evening as a result of the day’s fun. Congratulations Albatross, who managed to win the overall event again, albeit by a much bigger margin this year. Captains, Levi and Grace, extended their thanks to their team mates, whilst acknowledging the hard work of their competitors. It was lovely to see so much magnanimity from a winning team. I’d like to thank Di Thorby for organising this event and applying her incredible energy and organisational skills to make it such a great success. I also would like to extend thanks to all the parents who volunteered, working throughout the day to perform numerous tasks. Your help was another example of the school community working together to make a memorable experience for our students. Hopefully, you enjoyed yourselves and are keen to offer your skills again next year.
Another success is our students’ commitment to Home reading and Literacy Pro. This homework task is always well supported by our students, but even so, I have been impressed by the number of junior students who have already read 50 books and senior students who have achieved 100 points or more in Literacy Pro. This is a wonderful reflection of our teachers’ hard work in promoting reading and our students’ ability to rise to any challenge set. I also know a large number of students have been quietly achieving bronze Mathletics certificates each week since we’ve been back at school. This means many are due a silver certificate sometime very soon. In fact, two have already achieved theirs; well done, Sophia in Year 3 and Lily T in Year 5. I’m sure your achievement will be the perfect inspiration for others when completing homework tasks.

Sharon Cumbers, the police officer who presented our recent Cyber Safety Parent Meeting, has sent the school a number of online resources to support parental controls over their children’s use of technology. The following apps are the top 8 recommended by Tom's Guide:
- Net nanny (good for IOS)
- Norton Family Premier (top pick for Android)
- Kaspersky Safe Kids
- OurPact – (we’ve used this and is easy to use)
- Qustodio – (best multiplatform support)
- Screen Time
- ESET
- MMGuardian

The overall results were:
1st Albatross
2nd Gull
3rd Tern
We had over 20 parent helpers who did an amazing job assisting teachers and students, thank you parent helpers.
I would also like to commend the students on their excellent behaviour, sportsmanship and encouragement shown towards each other on the day!

School Run4Fun Colour Explosion
Dear Parent/Guardian
RE: School Run4Fun Colour Explosion
We’re turning our event from bland to GRAND this year by adding an explosion of colour. The more money we raise the more we can provide for the students through vital school projects, in particular enhancing Digital Technologies resources and upgrading reading books.
The School Colour Explosion™ Run will be held on Friday 20th March starting at 2.00pm. We do ask that you wear a plain white t-shirt as the students will be covered in powder from head to toe. The day’s focus is on fun and fitness with the added benefit of raising funds for our school.
COLOUR POWDER: The colour powder used in our event has been sourced direct from India, the home of Holi Powder. It is made of high quality corn starch and permitted food colours. It’s non-toxic, biodegradable, skin safe and environmentally friendly. Toxicological Risk Assessment and ingredient listings can be obtained from the School Office upon request. Students with asthma are advised to be careful in their decision to participate.
HOW DOES MY CHILD FUNDRAISE? Students have now received a Sponsorship Form with instructions on how to raise money and order prizes. Students obtain donations in cash using the Sponsorship Form together with online fundraising.
Students who raise as little as $10 or more will receive an incentive prize for their efforts. But why not aim higher? You have the option to choose up to five (5) prizes and this will set your fundraising goal. Family and friends are your greatest supporters, so ask them first for your support. You will reach your fundraising goal in no time.
STUDENT PROFILE PAGE. Create a Student Profile Page at www.myprofilepage.com.au which is unique to you. There are also some great features like creating your own avatar, selecting your prize goal and recording your sponsorships.
You can also register for online fundraising. It’s the easiest way to help your child raise money and to reach your fundraising goal sooner. You can share your fundraising page to family and friends through Facebook, Twitter, email and even text message with a few simple clicks.
WIN A DREAM HOLIDAY WORTH $10,000! For your chance to win a $10,000 Flight Centre Gift Voucher, create a Student Profile Page at www.myprofilepage.com.au and for every $10 raised you will receive one entry into the draw to win. The more you raise the more chances to win.
WIN A CRUISE OF YOUR CHOICE! The highest fundraising student in our school will go into the draw to win a $5,000 cruise of your choice. To enter, you must create a Student Profile Page at www.myprofilepage.com.au and you can view your ranking on our school’s leaderboard.
HOW TO ORDER PRIZES? To reward your child for their efforts, they will receive incentive prizes based on the total amount of sponsorship dollars raised in cash and online. You have two options to place your prize order:
- Login to your Student Profile Page at www.myprofilepage.com.au. Once the fundraiser has finished, click the ‘ORDER MY PRIZE’ button via the dashboard, OR
- Complete the back page of the Sponsorship Form and return to the school for processing.
Please note, all donations need to be finalised on or before Friday 20th March and student prizes will be delivered shortly after.

Sibling orders can ONLY be placed online. Late requests cannot be granted.
You have the option to order a sibling photo package online, however please note sibling orders will close in most instances at 12-midday sharp, one business day before the first photo date. We suggest you place your online sibling order as soon as you receive your order envelope with your order instructions as places are limited.

Over the last two weeks I have been running a Peer Mediators Program with some of our year 5 and 6 students. The students have really enjoyed learning about what a peer mediator is, the qualities of a good peer mediator and doing role plays where they practiced resolving conflicts as peer mediators. The peer mediators will start carrying out their role over the next week at recess and lunchtimes.
This week I also started a Mentoring Program for year 5 and 6 students in which some mentors have offered their time to discuss topics on strength, resilience and confidence in small groups. I am excited to see what the students take away and learn from the small groups.
Next week is ‘Bullying No Way!’ Day and the upper primary students are lucky to have a session about Bullying with a guest speaker and presentation. I will also be running activities in all the classes on strategies to prevent bullying from happening to themselves and to other students as well.
Please see the article below ‘Why children and siblings fight’ from the Raising Children Network.
Disagreements and fights can be a great chance for your children to practise the social skills they’ll need as adults. When disagreements between children get worked out fairly and without anyone getting hurt, children start to build problem-solving skills like negotiating. They also learn the importance of seeing another person’s point of view and respecting other people’s rights, feelings and belongings. There’ll be less fighting as your children grow and develop better social skills.
